On our last full day in La Selva, there was still plenty to do. Caterpillars from the second half of the week still needed to be logged and photographed, and while half of our team did that I went into the field along with Dr. Dyer and the others. We still needed to collect a few more samples, and the longest hike was saved for the last day. We spent about 4 hours in the field searching for more caterpillars, and finally once the heat got to us, we decided to head back in time for dinner. After dinner our team gathered for one final talk about the accomplishments of the expedition, and Dr. Dyer gave an overview of the significance of the study and our contributions to the research. Together our team collected over a dozen species of caterpillars, and several parasitoids that were previously undocumented in the study!
The following day, we packed our things, said our goodbyes to the staff at La Selva Biological Station, and got on a bus back to the hotel where we had met at the start of the week. The next day I departed from San Jose international, and after a long 12 hours of travel I was finally made it back home!
